Knights start anew in spring outing

Football practices at UCF came to a close early this week, just a few days after 82 players had the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of fans and coaches at the annual spring game inside Bright House Networks Stadium.

District 4 Softball Tournament

The Timber Creek softball team finished out the regular season unbeaten in both the Metro Conference and District 4 standings behind some impressive pitching and solid play in the field. The Wolves compiled an overall mark of 21-4 by shutting out 12 opponents, nohitting three teams, and one-hitting seven others during the year.

Wolves’ softball team avenges losses to Boone

Timber Creek junior Amanda King summed it up best when she said “third time is a charm” following the Wolves’ 4- 1 district championship win over Boone last week at Winter Park High School. After experiencing the letdowns that came in the district finals at the mercy of the Braves in 2006 and 2007, the Wolves finally got a taste of what the good life feels like.

TCHS squad goes unbeaten in Metro

Most girls dream of winning Metro Conference and district titles in sports they’ve spent most of their lives competing in. But for girls basketball, volleyball and soccer players at Timber Creek High School, among others, it was flag football that made them champions this spring.

Undefeated season ends for TCHS

The undefeated run by the Timber Creek girls flag football team came to an end over the weekend as they were blanked by Dr. Phillips, 19-0, in the playin game for the state finals tournament. The Wolves finished out the season as Metro Conference and district champs with a 13-1 record, which was achieved by shutting out eight teams and outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 244-62.

It’s easy to judge a book by its cover when it comes to Felicia Kearse and the discus throw. Those that don’t know her have to wonder at first glance how a girl with the physique of a guard on the basketball team could thrive in a field event once track season gets underway.

Putting his best foot forward

The last high school football game University’s Adam Riley participated in may have been his most impressive effort. Entering the Metro Conference All-Star Senior game at the conclusion of the 2007 season, Riley figured he had one more shot at proving his worth to coaches and scouts in attendance. And he made the most of every snap behind center and the punts he sent downfield.

The UCF softball team knocked off No. 1 Houston over the weekend to win its first Conference USA championship and earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament, which begins this weekend.

UHS trainer nabs Hall of Fame honor

Over the course of 18 years, five different principals and too many coaching changes to mention, Christina Farley has been a fixture in the world of athletics at University High School. The Virginia native and Wedgefield resident recently learned she is also now a Class of 2008 inductee into the Athletic Trainers’ Association of Florida (ATAF) Hall of Fame.
