Holistic moms

When Avalon Park resident Tara Felicio needs to throw out eggshells, newspapers and banana peels, she throws it in the compost container in her kitchen for the worms to take care of. Felicio also has recently stopped using paper products in her home. Instead, she only uses reusable dishes and napkins.

Seniors FIRST

The last time Andrea Predl saw her grandfather, he was like a stranger. The strong, passionate man who spent entire days tending his vegetable garden and hours helping her with math homework, had withered away to a frail, old man in a wheelchair who could barely remember her name. Her grandfather suffers from dementia.

East-side slaughterhouse serves fresh halal meat

Adecade ago, Mirza Ahmed couldn’t find any fresh meat in Orlando. He knew he wasn’t the only one. Growing up in a small town in Pakistan, Ahmed, 54, came of age in an era before commonplace refrigeration, when lambs and goats were slain before his eyes, to be sold at a butcher’s in the morning and eaten the same night.
