Header in double OT does Wolves in

Tables turn on TCHS following penalty kick

The second straight trip to the district finals last week turned out no better than the first time around for Timber Creek’s boys soccer team. On Friday night at Freedom High School the Wolves were forced into double overtime before a Winter Park cross from the right side to the far post bounced into the corner of the net off a header at the 6:29 mark, sending TCHS packing with a 2-1 setback.

On to regionals for local wrestlers

TCHS wins 4th straight district title as 25 advance

When the District 4 Tournament concluded at University High School on Saturday, 25 local wrestlers earned a trip to regionals this weekend at Dr. Phillips after notching top-4 finishes at the event. Among them were 15 competitors who reached the finals, where eight wrestlers came away with individual titles.

Turk honored again, but Magic slow out gate

Magic forward Hedo Turkoglu earned his second consecutive Eastern Conference Player of the Week award after helping Orlando go 3-0 last week behind an average of 24.3 points, 8 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game against Miami, Philadelphia and Indiana. He followed that up by recording his first career triple double on Monday night during the Magic’s 107-98 setback at home to the Dallas Mavericks.

Knights secure non-conference slate

Kevin Smith will be gone but the games must go on for the UCF football team. With recruiting season in the rearview mirror and spring practices set to begin in April, the Conference USA Champion Knights are in the midst of wrapping up their 2008 schedule.

TCHS softball team notches win No. 100

Lone senior starter makes college commitment to FCCJ

The softball team at Timber Creek earned its 100th all-time win earlier this week and improved to 8- 1 on the year with just one senior in the starting lineup. A steady contributor on the diamond for the bulk of those victories has been team captain and four-year varsity player Ashlee Curran.

Spring Fever

TCHS coach recalls his own MLB tryouts before training a new gen

It comes with every passing of the New Year and the changes in the seasons. For as long as fans can remember, late February has been a time when professional baseball teams report for spring training in Florida’s Grapefruit League. It’s a time when the games start anew and everybody’s team is again back in the hunt for a pennant.

UCF will hold its annual Black & Gold Spring Football Game at Bright House Networks Stadium or fans at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 12. Gates will open at 2 p.m. following the new season-ticket holder select-a-seat event that begins at 1 p.m.
