While trying to keep up in the district with the likes of Timber Creek and Boone on the softball field, teams at Colonial and University are hoping to find some consistency as the final weeks of the regular season approach.

The more things change, the more they stay the same for the baseball team at University High School. At least the Cougars hoped that slogan would ring true earlier this week while opening the regional tournament on the road at Oviedo.

Over the course of 18 years, five different principals and too many coaching changes to mention, Christina Farley has been a fixture in the world of athletics at University High School. The Virginia native and Wedgefield resident recently learned she is also now a Class of 2008 inductee into the Athletic Trainers’ Association of Florida (ATAF) Hall of Fame.

The thought of his final trip to the state tournament still causes the face of Brandon Tressler to cringe, whose attempt at claiming an elusive title was again out of reach as a senior. But despite not finishing his prep career the way he would have wanted, he instead got something he needed a little more.

What a year it’s already been for R.J. Swindle. After failing to make it through spring training stints in two previous tries with the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees, the former University High School baseball player made his major league debut in July with the Philadelphia Phillies.
