Double decade bash

The scene at Waterford Elementary this past weekend resembled an over-the-top child's birthday party--clowns, bounce houses, carnival games, a face painter, a DJ playing dance music and a table filled with decorative cakes covered the school's property. The party on Nov. 12 was the culmination of many smaller-scale celebrations of Waterford Elementary's 20th anniversary throughout the school year. The school wanted the students, parents and the community to know how important it is to them that they've been a part of East Orlando so many years, Principal Charles Lindlau said.

Silly carnival games, such as the Nose Pick, where kids had to dog in a paper mache nose to find either slime or a toy, filled the school's back court yard.

Dozens of cakes were donated from local businesses, including Winne Dixie, Publix and Sweet! for the party's Cake Walk, where a cake was given away every 10 minutes.
