One day after being named to the Conference USA Women's Soccer All-Academic First Team, UCF junior Tishia Jewell was named to the CoSIDA Academic All District 4 First Team Friday. Earlier this week, Jewell was also named to the All-C-USA First Team. Jewell is pursuing her master's degree in non-profit management. She earned her undergraduate degree in psychology in two years and boasted a 3.72 cumulative grade-point-average. She has appeared in all 20 games for the Knights this season and was second in C-USA with eight assists. The forward also has six goals on the year for 20 points.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association announced Tuesday, Oct. 25, its Graduation Success Rate (GSR) for student-athletes who first enrolled in school during the 2004 academic year and the University of Central Florida compiled a GSR of 83 percent, three points greater than the 80 percent national average.

Elijah Silas, a senior on University High School's 2011 cross country team, came in 13th place at the Metro East Championships held at Lake Nona High School last month. He achieved a personal best record of 16:19.40 and is expected to receive confirmation of breaking the University High 2001 distance record.

Michael Alexander of Avalon Middle School has been selected to represent the area as an All-Star tailback in the East vs. West Shrine Bowl played at Oviedo High School at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3.
