Brandon Marquez of Avalon Middle School won the second annual FLYRA Middle School State Championship, finishing the 3K run in 9:50.80, his personal best. He also became the first middle schooler in the state to run a 3K in less than 10 minutes this season.

UCF junior running back Latavius Murray accounted for 233 rushing yards and three total touchdowns in the Knights’ 31-14 win over UTEP on Nov. 25. His performance enabled him to be selected as the College Football Performance Awards National Running Back of the Week on Nov. 28.

Keith Clanton

After helping the UCF men’s basketball team to two wins, including a comeback victory against No. 4 UConn, at the Battle 4 Atlantis, junior forward Keith Clanton was selected as the Conference USA Player of the Week on Nov. 28. Clanton averaged 20 points, 9.3 rebounds and two assists in three games in the Bahamas and guided the Knights to an impressive second-place finish at the eight-team event.

Pinecastle Baseball Facility is hosting a six-week baseball camp starting Sunday, Jan. 22. Some of the area’s top coaches will direct the program in conjunction with U.S. Baseball Academy. Classes are available for players in grades 1-12 and are limited to six players per coach. Sessions are offered in advanced hitting, pitching, catching, fielding and base running. The American Football Coaches Association recognized UCF football in November for being one of 17 institutions for graduating at least 90 percent of its members of the freshman student-athlete class of 2004, which was UCF’s first year with head coach George O’Leary at the helm of the Knights’ program.

After its first 20-win season since 2003, the postseason accolades continued to roll in for the UCF volleyball team as the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced that Angelica Crump and Rachel Vukson were named to its Midwest All-Region team. The duo becomes UCF's seventh and eighth recipients of this award.
