The Avalon Park Garden Club was awarded the “Excellence in Community Building Projects”, which recognizes projects initiated by a community organization for physical or social improvements, such as landscaping or park improvements. The award was presented at the 2012 Orange County Community Conference on July 16.
Cat adoptions have slowed down at Orange County Animal Services during one of the shelter’s busiest cat intake periods. Shelter officials say every cat cage is filled and more than 200 cats are in need of a home. Every 10 years, the city of Orlando has to redraw its commission boundaries to ensure each district has equal population distribution in an effort to assure equality in representation. The Mid-Florida Milers Walking Club will host a walk on Saturday, Aug. 20 starting between 9-10 a.m. and ending at 1 p.m. The free walk will start at Froggers, 27 Alafaya Woods Blvd., Oviedo and either stretch for three miles or six miles, depending on preference, going through the neighborhoods and trails of the Alafaya Woods area of Oviedo.
